കൂർക്ക (നാടൻ)

Chinese Potato (Koorka)

Koorka(malayalam), Sambrali(kannada), sirukazangu(tamil). Koorka is also called Shemma/Chivakizhnagu and Chinese Potato in English. This tubar is a seasonal veggie available only for about 3 months during the winter in Kerala. These tubers are round, dark brown or black, and aromatic. They are smaller than regular potatoes with a bland flavor and comparatively sweeter taste. It needs some time and patience for cleaning. It's done putting it into a jute bag or sack and beating it on the floor till the skin peels off and then a knife is used to scrape off the remaining skin, Koorka improves immunity, treats stomach disorders, throat, and abdominal pain.
