Organic Foods: A Healthier Option to Reduce the Risk of Cancer.

Does a diet of organic food reduce the risk of cancer? According to a study conducted in France and reported by the American Institute of Cancer Research, it was found that there was a significant reduction of risk of cancer among those who were high consumers of organic food. So, the answer to our question is “Yes! ” But, an organic diet only “reduces the risk,” but does not prevent the occurrence of cancer. As diet is not the only factor involved here.

Non-organic Vs. Organic

Non-organic refers to processed food and conventional crops that are exposed to all kinds of chemicals. Everything from genetically modified crops, artificial additives, to growth hormones and pesticides. Organic on the other hand refers to food that is minimally processed without any artificial ingredient.

Some organic food items to consider are:

  • Organically grown fruits, vegetables and grains.

Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins and nutrients, and grains are high in fibre. Leafy green vegetables like lettuce and spinach and all types of berries are very good sources of antioxidants.

  • Turmeric

Something that is used extensively in India and is an integral part of the Indian diet. It contains ‘Curcumin,’ an ingredient that has been known to greatly reduce the risk of cancer.

  • Green Tea

This is a powerful antioxidant and has been known to help in the prevention of cancer in the liver, breast, pancreas, lungs and skin.

  • Fish

Consider including fish in the diet. Especially fatty fish like tuna and herring, both of which contain omega-3 fatty acids, an acid known to reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

  • Flaxseed

If fish is not an option then, flaxseed is highly recommended.

These are some common recommendations. If the availability of good quality organics is problematic, then Organic Planters is the best choice. We are a Kochi-based online shop for organic products ranging from fruits, vegetables, and spices to beauty products.
